Award for Merit for 2 RTW leaders

I am pleased to announce that the Chief Scout has recognised the hard work and dedication of two leaders from Royal Tunbridge Wells with the Award for Merit.

Beth Greer, Group Scout Leader at Calverley and Mark Leeves, Scout Leader at Speldhurst and member of the Campsite service team at Adamswell have both received the awards in recognition of their outstanding service.

Recognition for Connor and Paul

District Youth Commissioner, Connor Terry, and District Beaver Leader, Paul Batchelor have both received recognition this term for their contribution to Scouting and in particular their roles in organisation the Sleepover in aid of Porchlight.

Across the County thousands opf Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers were sleeping out in cardboard boxes to raise awarness of the growing issue of homelessness and raising funds for the Porchlight, a Kent based charity whose work supports helping the homeless.

Tunbridge Wells, as usual, rose to the challenge and the event, held at Adamswell in early October helped to raise over £11,800 for Porchlight.

RTW shines at County Awards

Royal Tunbridge Wells District received several nominations at last nights Kent Scouts AGM and award categories.

Nominations were received in the following categories

Best Use of Media

Young Person of the Year

Young Leader of the Year

Leader of the Year 

Growth and Development

Despite the high level of nominations we never managed a category win on this occassion, however District Commissioner Brian Hobden was not too disappointed and commented "Whilst naturally it would have been nice to walk away with a trophey or two, the real winner is Scouting and our young people that develop vital SkillsForLife.  To be nominated in so many categories is a fantatsic achievement and I am so proud of all the volunteers in Tunbridge Wells who give so much time to ensure we have such a successful District."
